As soon as I walked out the gym door, I was greeted with a big hug by our sons’ classmate who visited over the weekend. “Did you do at least one thing you didn’t want to do today?” I asked with a big smile, knowing the answer before he replied since it was the first day back after spring break.
“I went to school,” he declared.
“And I went to workout,” I added with a laugh.
There are a lot of things I dread in life. Over the past few days, I’ve been marking off some of the things I know I need to do, but don’t normally do because, well, I just haven’t wanted to and when you read this short list, you may understand:
- Cleaning out the pantry (Saturday)
- Getting a mammogram (7:30 a.m. this morning)
- Working out on days I don’t normally workout (Today!)
Could you imagine what our lives would look like if we only did what was fun or comfortable? For one thing, I probably wouldn’t have already filed our taxes with the IRS. But, there is great return (literally!) when we push through and do what needs to be done. Don’t you agree?
So, I’ll ask you the question: Did you do one thing you didn’t want to do today? If you haven’t, you still have time! I promise it will bring a smile to your face, just like the one on mine.
